Specimens
Specimens is a collection of 95 organic inventions referencing scientific study from the microcosm to the macrocosm, from cellular biology to deep space.
Each specimen is a one-of-a-kind collage containing between 10 and 50 collage elements. Collage elements are hand-pulled, screen based monoprints, that have been cut up, layered, and reassembled with wheat paste or rice paste using an etching press.
Specimens were originally created as handleable art objects and since have exhibited in a variety of installation configurations. Projects include Symbiosis, a temporary site-specific installation of 69 Specimens suggested evolution, mitosis, and infinity. Artist intention was to express evolution from a single mother cell, order and complexity without management, understanding and reciprocity as a cycle of giving and receiving, the joy of being in the garden of earthly delight, and how humans approach their everyday. Table of Traits mounts 72 Specimens on 15″ squares to create a visual exploration of personality types and characteristics as they manifest in ourselves and others. Each color coded panel identifies a human personality with image and word. Table of Traits is a collaboration with Nanette Wylde.
Specimens 69–95 will be posted soon.
