Manske’s design objective was to engage the diversity and forward thinking nature of the community with signs that behave less like generic welcome signs and function more to unify the community through celebration, inclusiveness and positiveness. To develop the concept, he photographed residents and workers of the North Fair Oaks community, including musicians, dancers, artists, families, health care workers, scientists, custodians, firefighters and gardeners. For Manske, working closely with residents and local businesses was important to the signs being a community collaboration. Materials and labor for the sculptures were locally sourced. Manske was engaged in all aspects of conceptualization, design, production, engineering and installation of the entry signs.
